The Asian Student Union at SFSU has always been rooted in community, activism, and cultural pride. Here's a quick timeline of the moments that shaped who we are today.

- Native to Asia
- Stands for balance & kindness
- He helps you find happiness within yourself, while also teaching you the importance of social relationships with the people you love
It was the longest student strike in history - 167 days
- This strike was started by the Third World Liberation Front to create an Ethnic Studies building.
- The TWLF is composed of: the Black Student Union, the Mexican American Student Confederation, the Philippine American Collegiate Endeavor (PACE), the Intercollegiate Chinese for Social Action (ICSA), the Latin American Students Organization (LASO), an American Indian student organization, and the Asian American Political Alliance.

- We got the Cesar Chavez Student Center and the Ethnic Studies and Psychology Building.
- We got the ASU Room (M100-E, located on the Mezzanine level) by staging a sit-in and refusing to leave until we got the room.

- ASU has three founders, who were all active in leadership roles and within the Asian American community:
- 1. Warren Mar - SF Chinatown
- 2. Cecil (seh-seal) Yoshida - SF Japantown
- 3. Victor Huey - Oakland Chinatown
- They had the same ideals as AAPA so they started Asian Student Union in 1974.
- AAPA (Asian American Political Alliance) and ASU are NOT the same thing. ASU did NOT form as a result of AAPA. However, ASU members did come from AAPA.

- Moving forward, ASU will continue to support cultural awareness and educate our members about the issues that are going on within the community.
- We strive to provide our members with the tools and knowledge to enact positive change.
- Although ASU functions as social gatherings where students are encouraged to fraternize with one another, we are first and foremost an organization that values creating a safe space for our members and the greater Asian American community at SFSU.
- Through social, educational, cultural, and political activities and events, Asian Student Union hopes to provide members with a better understanding and awareness of the conditions and issues which face our communities.
